As a general rule, I only go to Byron at Christmas – their Holy Cheesemas thoroughly blew my mind so when I found out that they had a new summer menu, I just had to break the rules and give it a go. Well, it’d be rude not to as THEY NAMED A BURGER AFTER ME (owwwwww you guuuuuys…)
So, last Monday, I met Chris after work in Chiswick where we went for a quick pint and then to Byron for din dins and burger nomming. I had the Sweet Caroline – obvs – Chris went for Le Smokey and we shared fries and onion rings with Byron sauce (well spicy but also well nice) & chipotle mayo.
The Sweet Caroline comes with (as well a beef patty, perfectly cooked) pulled pork, streaky bacon (DOUBLE PIG HIGH FIVE) new jalapeño mayo and crispy fried potatoes. At first I thought that the amount of meat would make it burger too rich and bland however, the jalapeño coleslaw saved the day by adding a fresh (bonjour, coriander) spice (hola, jalapeño) to the burger and the fried potatoes gave it an unexpected crunch – flavour and texture explosions in my mouth!
^ incase you were confused (I know I was) the crispy potatoes are like extra skinny fries and just super crunchy – they didn’t just decide to lob your side order into your burger.
^ I ONLY USED THE FORK TO SCOOP UP THE FALLEN OUT POTATO BITS I DIDN’T USE CUTLERY TO EAT THE BURGER I SWEAR!

I say this a lot of but I am (well, we both are) a giant, unashamed burger snob and I reckon that Byron is the only chain burger place I can stand. Nowhere else even comes close. As part of their summer menu they’re also making hard shakes (milkshakes with booze) so I’ll be back to try some of that please THANKS.
